By Angelo Benedict Suyo, Software Engineer
Infor Lawson System Foundation (LSF) 10.0.7.0 delivers new functionality in Infor Lawson for Ming.le, allowing administrators who prefer to work in a web-based environment access to the same functionality present when working in a Lawson Interface Desktop (LID) environment. The tools outlined below are functional equivalents of their LID-based counterparts.
All tools can be accessed at the administration home page, under the LSF Administration Tools link.
Printer & Printer Group Management Tools
Two of the most widely used tools in LID, used for setting up Printers and Printer Groups, are now available on Infor Lawson for Ming.le.

Printers
A printer is used as a representation of a hardware printer in LSF, used as a destination of reports in LSF.
Using the Printer Management Tool, administrators can view, create new printers, modify and delete existing ones.

Printer Groups
Printer Groups are defined in the Printer Group Management Tool, these Printer groups will use the defined printers in the Printer Definitions Web Tool.
Using the Printer Group Web Tool, administrators can view, create new printer group, modify or delete existing ones.

Distribution Group Management Tool
A distribution group is a set of users that you define so that you can distribute reports to this set of people. This web version of Distribution Group Management Tool can be accessed at the administrator home page, under the LSF Administration Tools link.

Job Queues
Job Queues are used to queue the execution of batch jobs in an LSF system. They are also used to control the load levels of the batch subsystem, by controlling which jobs will run based on a variety of factors.
The Job Queue Management Tool allows administrators to view, create and modify an existing Job Queue’s properties. These include the Job Queue’s name, number of jobs, number of update jobs, priority and status. The tool also allows deletion of existing Job Queues.

Job Queue Groups
Job Queue Groups are used to group together Job Queues. These groups are used to control job queue access to users in Infor Lawson Security.
The Job Queue Group Definition Web Tool allows administrators to view, create and modify existing Job Queue Groups. These include the group’s name, description, and members. The tool also allows deleting existing Job Queue Groups.

I like the re-implementation so far for the printer/job queue. But why stop at something that was done many years ago in LID? For the printer def, add more features like, “Send a test print”. So admin can setup printer and send a test page etc like Windows has done since windows 98? For the job queue, add control buttons like START/STOP/PAUSE/RESTART etc…
Thank you for the feedback.
